This year marked the fifth anniversary of the WSRRA. The National Finals held this last November was a celebration of our accomplishment!
As the association has grown, we were pleased to introduce new feature performances each night and new events for the 2014 National Finals Rodeo. This year the Professional Wild Horse Racers Association (PWHRA) joined the WSRRA and held their National Finals in Winnemucca. The top six 3 man teams in the Nation competed in six go rounds for their World Title. This was a great event and will be an exciting addition to the rodeo. The WSRRA is proud to have the PWHRA as partners in the event.
The Ranch Dog Challenge and Jack Pot Ropings offered something for the whole family to compete in. The largest crowd ever enjoyed the Buckaroo Christmas Gear and Trade Show, which was open every day Thursday through Sunday for Christmas shopping with quality craftsman and vendors. Kids and their parents enjoyed Halloween “Trick-Or-Treat Street” for the kids.
The first WSRRA Queen Contest was held this year to crown our Queen for the 2015 season. A big “Thanks!” to the 2014 WSRRA Queen, Jenna Taylor, for representing the association this season. Tia Tomburello, 23, from Lima Montana is the new queen!
The 2014 season qualified 15 Women’s Division Teams, 40 Open Division Teams, the top 15 Women’s Steer Stoppers, and the top 15 Ranch Bronc Riders to compete for World Champion Titles. With the top talent and great ranch horses that are coming, the event was a very tough contest. The Ranch Bronc Riding went on tour with 12 double point events, each with $2,000.00 minimum in added money. There was one Tour Stop in every sanctioning state, including the first ever WSRRA sanctioned event in Holbrook, AZ. The Tour Events will be returning in 2015 with more points and added money. The Eastern New Mexico State Fair, on October 4, 2014, was the first event sanctioned in New Mexico. This bronc riding will count towards 2015 points and it will be a 40 point event with $7,500.00 in added money!
The WSRRA welcomes our returning National Sponsors for the 2014 Season: The WCVA Board, Ram Trucks, and Boot Barn. Joining our sponsorship family this year is Performix Nutrition, Les Schwab Tires, 8 Seconds Whisky, Gouveia Ranches, and the Working Ranch Magazine. Thanks to all of these businesses for their sponsorship of the WSRRA. We truly appreciate your continued support of the association!
This year the WSRRA partnered with the Rodeo News as our official news magazine for the association, and has been very successful in the promotion of the WSRRA. Now, with every membership comes a 1 year subscription to the Rodeo News. Rodeo News features an article on the WSRRA in every issue as well as many other outstanding associations.
The WSRRA Kick-Off Party was held Friday, 10/31 after the rodeo performance. This year’s entertainment was velvet-voiced Nashville recording artist Joni Harms. Congratulations to all the winners!!!! 2014 National Finals results are posted here: – Marc Page WSRRA President
